Getting a traffic saman is never fun, but ignoring it could lead to even bigger problems

Whether it's from speeding, illegal parking, or forgetting to fasten your seatbelt, there could be serious consequences if you do not check and pay your traffic summonses.

Here's what could happen if you leave your summonses unpaid:

  • You may be blacklisted from renewing your road tax or driving licence
  • You could face higher fines if the case goes to court
  • In some cases, a warrant of arrest may be issued
  • You might even be stopped at roadblocks and asked to settle your fines on the spot

All in all, it's better (and cheaper) to pay up early!

Before figuring out how to pay for your traffic summonses, it's important to understand the different kinds of summonses in Malaysia:

1. Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) summonses
These are issued by PDRM for offences like speeding, using mobile phones while driving, or running a red light.

2. Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ) summonses
These are issued by JPJ, often related to vehicle compliance, road tax, or licence violations.

3. DBKL, MBPJ, and other local council summonses
These usually involve parking offences or illegal vehicle modifications within city council jurisdictions.

Next, there are a few ways you can check and pay for your traffic summonses in Malaysia online:

Another way to check for traffic summonses is through SMS services

While SMS services are convenient, Malaysians are urged to be careful when using them. There have been cases of phishing scams involving fake saman messages.

As a reminder, official SMS services will never ask for sensitive information like passwords, OTPs, or banking details. Always double-check the sender's number and avoid clicking on suspicious links.

How to check for traffic summonses via SMS:

  • For PDRM summonses, send 'POLIS SAMAN [MyKad number or Vehicle Registration Number]' to 15888 or 32728
  • For JPJ summonses, send 'JPJ SAMAN [MyKad number or Vehicle Registration Number]' to 15888

So, if you've been putting off checking and paying your summonses, now's the time to do it
