What is a Coin Deposit Machine?

Coin Deposit Machines are self-service machines that automatically count and deposit your coins into your bank account for you — fast, easy, and fuss-free.

Sure, you could bring your coins to a bank counter, but that usually means taking a number, waiting in line, and having them count manually. No thanks.

That's why Bank Negara Malaysia introduced Coin Deposit Machines in 2014 — to encourage Malaysians to return their coins into circulation and to easily track their savings at no extra charge.

How do I use a Coin Deposit Machine?

Got a jar full of coins? No need to sort or count them. Just follow these simple steps:

1. Go to a bank branch with a Coin Deposit Machine. Not all branches have them. You can refer to the list below to check ahead of time.

2. Insert your coins. There's no need to separate them, as the machine will sort them by denomination, be it 5 sen, 10 sen, 20 sen, and 50 sen coins, both old and new. Just make sure they're Malaysian coins; the machine does not accept foreign currency.

3. Press the 'A' button to start. The machine will begin processing your coins. If any aren't accepted, they'll be returned to a tray at the bottom. You can try re-inserting them and pressing 'A' again.

4. Press 'B' when you're done. The machine will print two receipts — one for you and one for the bank. Fill in your name, bank account number, and phone number on the bank's copy.

5. Submit the form to the customer service counter and get a receipt. You're done! If you deposit your coins before 4pm, the money will be credited to your account on the same day. After 4pm? It'll show up the next business day.

This list of locations was last updated by Bank Negara Malaysia in February 2025.

However, do note that many coin deposit machines are old. This SAYS writer visited several Maybank branches and found the machines to be under maintenance.

We recommend contacting your bank branch directly to confirm if the machines are operational.
