2,500 Pieces Of Roti Canai And 7 Other Things You Can Buy For The Cost Of An iPhone 14 Pro

I mean... why not? :P

Follow us on InstagramTikTok, and Telegram for the latest stories and breaking news.

Since the iPhone 14 and its variants will make their debut in Malaysia very soon, we thought it would be fun to compare the price of the device with some everyday things, just for laughs :P

There's a Malay saying that goes something along the lines of "ukur baju di badan sendiri" which roughly translates to whatever you're doing, make sure it is within your means.

Considering how pricey these new iPhones are, it's best to know what you're getting yourself into if you choose to get one. The base 14 Pro version with 128GB of storage is priced RM5,299.

With that being said, let's look into what you can buy with RM5,299 — shall we?

1. Over 2,500 pieces of roti canai

I mean, you don't have to, but you can.

This is based on the estimate that the average roti canai in Malaysia costs RM2 a piece.

We're also not encouraging to waste food! Maybe throw a kenduri or donate them to a soup kitchen, after all — everybody loves roti canai. :D

2. A two-week trip to Tokyo, Japan

According to Expedia, the price for a return ticket to Tokyo, Japan for fourteen days through Malaysian Airlines averages between RM3,506 to RM4,385 if you're planning on travelling from 3 to 16 October.

The extra money you have leftover can cover meals and souvenirs, hehe.

3. Downpayment for a brand new Perodua Myvi

The price of a standard 2022 Perodua Myvi is RM46,500. With a RM5,299 downpayment, you'll be able to nab the 'king of the road' for more than a 10% downpayment!

At least this way, your monthly installments won't cost as much.

4. 11 bulks of bundle clothing

This bundle store on Shopee sells various bulks of bundle clothes for different prices. Their ladies blouse mix retails at RM450.

You can buy about 11 of these bulks for the price of an iPhone 14 Pro. You can even mix it up with other different bulks.

5. 13 pairs of Nike Air Force 1 shoes

Effortlessly stylish and easy to pair, the Nike Air Force 1 is a fan favourite.

They retail at RM369, so with the money you have for an iPhone 14 Pro, you can get 13 pairs of these shoes.

6. Three months worth of rent in Klang Valley

Let's say the average rent in Klang Valley is roughly RM1,500 (not counting bills). Three months worth of rent would just amount to RM4,500. If you want to go even lower than that, here are eight condos in Selangor with an average median rental that's lower than RM1,500, as listed by PropertyGuru.

That being said, you still need to fork out some extra ringgits for bills, commitments, entertainment, and so on.

7. An entire buffet spread for you, your family, and friends

What better way to spend hard-earned money than with loved ones, right? Of course we don't expect you to spend the whole RM5,299 for just one session, but it can be divided equally to treat family and friends across the year, hehe :P

You'll get to experience all manner of buffets from fancy, special hotel-style buffets to all-you-can-eats.

You can check out our buffet tab for recommendations!

8. A complete work-from-home setup

This PC setup, complete with a mouse, speaker, and monitor with highest specs is priced at RM3,700 via this store on Shopee.

Additionally, you can even add on an IKEA ALEX desk priced at RM573.90, and a mechanical KEYCHRON keyboard which can go up to RM339 to complete your setup.

Add all this together, and you'll still have RM686.10, which you can either put aside and save, or use the money to buy these great quality, wireless, noise cancelling headphones from SONY for RM548.

So yeah, that's a whole workstation setup. :P

Don't get us wrong, we're not trying to throw shade at Apple

It's just that, RM5,299 is a lot of money, but if it's something you want and can afford, then by all means — get it!

We made comparisons of Apple's devices with everyday items a few times before:
