Malaysian Man Forced To 'Belanja' Friends RM3,000 Wagyu Meal After He Got Promoted
Would you still consider these people your friends?
A story shared by a Malaysian man about his friend's experience celebrating a promotion has struck a chord with netizens, sparking discussions on dining etiquette and boundaries with friends
In a viral social media post, digital creator Zainuddin Omar recounted how his friend, who was recently promoted from Grade 54 to the esteemed Jusa C level, found himself left with a whopping RM3,000 restaurant bill after his friends ordered the priciest items on the menu.
His friend was the first in his batch to receive the promotion, leading many of his peers still in Grade 54 to congratulate him on his success.
As a part of the celebration tradition, his close friends persistently urged him to treat them to a meal. Feeling obliged, he brought six friends to a popular steakhouse to mark the occasion.
Once at the restaurant, however, things took an unexpected turn.
When the menu arrived, four of his friends didn't hold back, selecting premium wagyu steaks priced at RM600 each
Only two other friends chose RM60 steaks instead. When the bill arrived, the newly promoted man found himself facing a hefty RM3,000 bill, a stark contrast to his intended budget of just RM200 to RM300.
In his social media post, Zainuddin shared his disappointment, suggesting that the extravagant orders may have stemmed from envy among his friend's peers who hadn't received promotions. He lamented the wastefulness of spending RM3,000 on a single meal.

Zainuddin then shared a personal story when he treated a friend to nasi kandar at the famous Line Clear restaurant, only to be surprised when his friend ordered large prawns and squid, while he had opted for a simple ayam ros dish
"It's not about being stingy," the post read. "But there should be limits when indulging your appetite at someone else's expense."
The story has sparked considerable reactions online, with many calling out the lack of consideration displayed by some of the friends. Others have used it as a reminder of the importance of moderation and respect when someone treats you to a meal.
The post concluded, "Be respectful and well-mannered. Don't take advantage of kind-hearted friends."
Commenters agreed with Zainuddin's stance
