Ismail Sabri's Son Claims 'Friends' & Job Offers Vanished After His Dad Was No Longer PM
The singer and actor is the son of Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who was the ninth prime minister of Malaysia.
Former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob's son, Gaddafi Ismail Sabri, has claimed that many of his 'friends' and prospective job offers vanished after his father failed to be reappointed to the post
In an interview with mStar over the weekend, the 35-year-old shared that during his father's time as the ninth prime minister, many 'friends' had reached out to him through his social media accounts.
Gaddafi, who goes simply by Dafi, however, said that after his father no longer held the post of the prime minister of Malaysia, many of his 'friends' started distancing themselves from him.
Although, it's something he said he had expected would happen
According to Gaddafi, he remembers spending entire nights just replying to messages.
"I would be labelled 'arrogant' if I didn't reply, especially those who approached me kindly. So I just went with the flow. I already expected, when my father's no longer there, everyone would disappear," he claimed.
Recalling when Ismail was appointed to the post in August 2021, Gaddafi said even those who had not been in touch with him for years suddenly started communicating with him.
What's most disappointing for Gaddafi is that some of the prospective job offers that he had received from people were also cancelled without any reason following his father not being in office anymore.
"It's not like there's no job offers at all, I still receive some. But there are those which were already agreed upon but were cancelled. They suddenly told me that it's been cancelled even though they were the ones excited to give me the offer. I don't want to dive deeper into it, I guess it was just not my luck," he said.
Ismail was Barisan Nasional's (BN) prime ministerial candidate in the 15th General Election (GE15). The coalition suffered a humiliating loss in the polls, winning only 30 seats, compared to its 79 seats in GE14.
The GE15 results still saw BN playing the role of the kingmaker by aligning itself with its longtime political rival, Pakatan Harapan (PH), along with other smaller coalitions to form the federal government.
However, with PH being the largest political coalition in the Dewan Rakyat, thanks to its 82 seats, the coalition's prime ministerial candidate, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, was then appointed to the post.
The Akademi Fantasia alumni, however, insisted that he has never taken advantage of his father's position when the latter held the post
"People always say I'm lucky because I'm the son of the prime minister," he said.
"We siblings don't get any privileges," Gaddafi claimed, adding that he even had to break his savings to make ends meet when there were no singing or acting offers.
"The people don't know the real situation... My father doesn't even give me money."
